Ah, they turned my takeout sushi gem into mediocrity. Ugh.

I used to like this place quite a bit when it was under different management and went by a different name. This is the first time I tried the current incarnation. The fish was ok, although their "crispy rice" spicy tuna roll was strange and more like nigiri. They do have reasonable prices especially weekdays for lunch, but the quality is just middling. Perhaps I will try it one more time, but unless it's much better I will be stuck with just memories.

As before, this is basically just a takeout / delivery place. Cheaper as a result. Service is friendly.

First time I tried the Manhattan Garden Roll which was great!
Definitely going to come back to try more. Especially during the happy hour.

Back in Manhattan Beach for business, wanna to get my ATF lunch sushi at Kai just to find out that it had an ownership change, Tomu Fish... Being hungry and adventurous, we decided to take one for the Team.

CONCLUSION --- NOT Impressed.

Order the lunch deluxe combo but it doesn't come with soup and salad like Kai used to do. Not a deal breaker despite the increase in price. What bugs me the most was that the fish WAS NOT FRESH. The tuna and it was lukewarm (still raw though) and the Salmon tasted funny (look salmon but the stripes was not distinct and it was lukewarm too). Then the spicy tuna was super-charged with spice. The eel was a weird cut (near the jaw) so there was "harder" flesh/cartilage. It was not a pleasant experience. I hope I don't get sick from the tuna and salmon.

The good thing was that they now carry more cooked food. But honestly, after eating that sushi, I am not sure I want to go back.

They also started this loyalty customer card like Pink Berry... but you have to spent $20 to even get a stamp. That is a lot of un-refresh sushi or cooked food per visit.

My coworker claimed that the chicken teriyaki was good but how can you mess up soy sauce and sugar marinated chicken?

Not a good start for this business.

Not good, at all. The prices aren't bad, but the fish is obviously not fresh.
Worst of all, everything we ordered was flavorless. The tuna sashimi I ordered had an odd rubbery consistency. Won't be eating here again.

I am obsessed with Jogasaki truck. I was stoked to see Tomu had a sushi burrito too! coconut shrimp, crab, avocado, salmon, tuna tataki with rice wrapped in soy paper and black sesame seeds. Spicy mirin sauce on side. I also asked for spicy mayo and unagi sauce (no charge!). It was freakin awesome and I can't wait to try more. They were sooo nice too.

I don't go out of my way to write bad reviews, but the customer service is nonexistent. I walked in at 8pm tonight and waited at the counter while I looked over the menu. About 5 minutes later a guy walked out and asked me to wait a minute. He returned with a woman who told me they were closed. Mind you I walked through a wide open front door, as in propped open, and Yelp says they close at 830. I explained I walked from my hotel to pick up food, and they said they could only make me a California roll because they were trying to close and leave by 8:30. Based on the other reviews I'm guessing I dodged a bullet, so I'm going to just be happy that I spent $20 on a salad at my hotel.

we got to-go sushi from here on saturday. i didn't think it was that bad, but they did screw up our order. of course, we didn't realize until we got home and found a roll that was dif from what we ordered.

the portions were not very big for the price. we got the rainbow roll which was like $11 and it was the smalled rainbow roll i've ever seen.

This is our go-to place for Sushi in South Bay. Sashimi is super fresh and generous portions to boot. They do a nice job keeping the hot and cold separate so if you don't have far to drive, everything makes it you your table at home in perfect condition. We learned to call ahead so there isn't even a wait. Not sure about others' having negative experiences, we're kind of regulars there and they haven't missed once.

Meh... Liked Kai (previous restaurant at same location) much better. The prices are ok, but for take out sushi it is mediocre at very best. Unfortunately Manhattan doesn't have a wide variety of good sushi take out like West LA.

Consistantly good. Yes, this place had been through a few name changes. Kamiyama, then Kai, now Tomu Fish. With the name changes have come a few menu fluctuations, but I'm still hanging in there. Is it sushi bar, made to order delish? Maybe not. But you can do a lot worse and pay a lot more, A LOT MORE, at various sub-par places in Torrance or SoBay. Take out only. Chill your wine of choice in advance & you won't be disappointed. Manhattan Rock Star Roll literally rocks & the Deluxe Sushi Combo always impresses.

I eat a lot a sushi and the problem with the southbay is that there is really no good sushi or authentic Asian food. I consider myself pretty good when it comes to the quality of sushi and the freshness as I have been to Japan and travelled different parts of Asia. When Tomu first took over from Kai I thought the sushi quality had gotten worse. But out of desperation I tried it again in the last couple if months and the quality is excellent! Now you are not going to get the best cut of sushi from a take out place. But the quality is very good for the type of place it is and the price.

We ordered sushi last night, thinking we were calling Kai sushi. What a bummer. We did not get the fresh, flavorful sushi rolls we loved at Kai Sushi; what we got tasted a lot like supermarket quality sushi. It was bland and did not taste fresh. We won't be back - too bad; we LOVED Kai Sushi.

They vanished. Phone is disconnected and the inside of the place looks like they left in a hurry. Too bad, it was pretty decent takeout sushi for the price. Better than the other takeout options in Manhattan Beach.

For quick, well-priced take-out sushi, Tomu is the best place around. I have had their nigiri (fresh and yummy) as well as a few of their rolls (Cali, Shrimp tempura and Spicy Tuna) and they were all very good.

Way better than most over priced sit down sushi places. So far I've tried their chicken teriyaki, Manhattan love roll, spicy tuna roll and their baked lobster roll. They were all delicious! And also their miso soup is really good! Plus you can't really beat their price considering it's in Manhattan beach. Service is always super friendly and they always get you your good fast! Really reasonably priced lunch specials that are very filling and they also have happy hour mon-wed 20% off rolls! Woo!
