Two recent investigations and arrests by the Solano County Sheriff’s Office are putting a spotlight on local efforts to target those who commit crimes against children.
The Sheriff’s Investigation Bureau’s recent launch of an Internet Crimes Against Children effort with a full-time investigator paid off last week with the arrest of a Vallejo resident on suspicion of Child Sexual Assault Material (child pornography) distribution and sales.
Because the arrest is part of an ongoing investigation, the suspect’s name has not been released but investigators say he had more than 120 terabytes of child porn in his residence. “Not gigabytes, terabytes,” the department noted in a social media post on the arrest. “To put that amount of data in perspective, 1 terabyte of data is roughly 120 hours of (high definition) video.”

In addition to the pornography, investigators seized more than 20 computers, a server and multiple anti-forensic and “hacking” tools.
They added that the case stemmed from an earlier SAFE (Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement) Street sweep, which they described as a continuous and ongoing enforcement and investigation into all sexual assault crimes.

It wasn’t the only local crime against children to result in a arrest by the department.

In a recent effort, the sheriff’s Vice Unit and detectives, along with several neighboring law enforcement agencies, conducted a human trafficking operation “aimed at combating the persistent issue of human trafficking within the county,” investigators said.
During this operation, vice detectives arrested a 22-year-old white woman from Georgia on charges of human trafficking involving a minor and a 31-year-old Hispanic man from Daly City for pimping, pandering, and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.
Further identification of the suspects was not released but the operation successfully resulted in the rescue of nine victims, including one minor, all of whom were provided with various resources to assist them, sheriff’s officials said.
Additionally, several other individuals were contacted during the operation, and investigations into their potential involvement in human trafficking are ongoing.
Solano Sheriff’s PIO Sgt. Rex Hawkins said the reason names were not released yet involves the ongoing investigations in both cases. “These are active cases,” he explained.
He added that Solano County law enforcement is committed to identifying and apprehending sexual predators and added, “It goes without saying that these kinds of crimes are unacceptable.”
